A blue 1997 Subaru Legacy with only 202,000 miles on it, a couple rust spots in the usual places, a nice, clean interior, a good engine -- just perfect for someone who has the time and money to spend on getting her back into shape. That someone, unfortunately, is not me. So she's going on Craigslist this month, and we'll see what happens. I really hope someone buys her who will turn her into something wonderful. She's a great car! UPDATE: She was purchased by a mechanic over in eastern Illinois, who plans on taking the best parts of her and using them to keep two other Subarus running. Probably just as well. There's some significant rust damage that just can't be fixed without tearing her all apart, and no one has the time or money for that kind of work. Oh, well. There I was, innocently driving home after a lovely trip to the hardware store. The car was running tip-top, things were just going great, when suddenly -- WHAM! The hood shot up and hit the windshield with a resounding crash and startled me out of a perfect day and into a complete nightmare. Luckily, I was only a few minutes from home!

It's been a long time since the last car repair. Truth be told, I haven't missed it as much as I thought. It was actually nice not to spend every weekend trying to keep the cars on the road. We sold off the last of the Subarus last November. We bought a used Toyota Rav in early March so that Cheryl would have something to drive which didn't require a clutch (because of her knee issues). Later that month, the Grand Am was put up on Craigslist (and sold in a matter of hours). So for the past several months, we've been plagued with cars that actually work. The repair shop has been reduced to simple maintenance - oil changes, filters, and brakes. Nothing that requires a great deal of effort. Until Monday. Deb called to request assistance because her Camry had suddenly stopped working.
